Originally, I casually shared my experience in building a music library, but I didn't expect it to go viral. I also didn't anticipate that everyone would be so interested in building a music library on NAS.

This article mainly addresses several questions raised by friends in the comments section. I rushed to finish it overnight, and since I've been a bit tired from participating in the Double Eleven event recently, the language logic might not be very good, so please bear with me~

Without further ado, let's continue from the last article:

About Music Scraping

As mentioned in the previous article, Plex's music scraping has almost no effect on Chinese songs, which is why we recommend checking "Prefer Local Metadata" when adding media libraries. Once checked, there’s no need for Plex to scrape; you can directly use the tags that come with the songs.

So, the question arises: where can we find the tags that come with the songs? How do I know if the songs I downloaded have tags?

Here, I must recommend a fantastic tool I previously shared with everyone: MusicTag.

I won't go into the specific operations here, just highlight two points to note:

🔺 First, select all for automatic tag matching.

🔺 Second, choose the first naming template: Artist - Title. This way, Plex can quickly recognize and organize them.

Plugin Installation

Why install plugins? It's actually to solve the scraping issue. Although Plex has its own music scraping plugin, Plex Music, its support for Chinese songs is really terrible~. So, some domestic experts have developed third-party music scraping plugins.

As far as I know, the two most commonly used third-party music scraping plugins on Plex are WangYiYun and QQmusic. I noticed that many previous tutorials recommended WangYiYun, but from my experience over the past two days, QQmusic has more comprehensive support. So, why choose when we can install both~

🔺 First, we need to download the two major scraping plugins; you can see the names in the image (please don't ask where to download them; I believe I've done my best to guide you~). What you get is actually a compressed file; after extracting it, you will get a folder. Rename the entire folder to ".bundle" (as shown in the image above).

🔺 After the plugins are ready, we can upload them. However, since we installed Plex server as a package within the system, we must enable NAS's admin (admin) permissions to obtain the highest authorization. Just enable admin in "Control Panel -- Permissions -- Users".

PS: Since we are only enabling it temporarily, remember to "disable" the admin (admin) user for security after this operation.

🔺 Then use an SSH tool to connect to NAS. I recommend using the same SSH tool as I do, FinalShell. Be sure to log in with the admin account. After logging in, look for the following path in the "Files" section below:

/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Resources/Plug-ins-XXXXX

Note:

CACHEDEV1_DATA: This is the storage location where your Plex server is installed; it may not necessarily be CACHEDEV1_DATA; it could also be CACHEDEV2_DATA or others;
Plug-ins-XXXXX: The XXXXX at the end is different for everyone; just find the correct location and ignore the string of codes after it.

Then simply drag the two downloaded plugins, WangYiYun and QQmusic, into that folder (if you are not logged in as an admin account, you may not be able to drag them in, meaning insufficient permissions, which is why I asked you to enable the admin account earlier)!

🔺 Then open the QNAP App Center, first "Stop" the Plex Media Server, then "Enable" it.

🔺 Reopen the Plex Media Server, and you will see the WangYiYun and QQmusic plugins added in "Settings -- Agents"! Don't hesitate, just check them all!

🔺 If scraping fails or is incorrect, simply click the "three dots" in the album and select "Fix Match".

🔺 Modify the title in the search options, select "qqmusic" in the agents, and then click search directly. Choose one of the search results, and it will automatically match the song information.

🔺 Most of the time, it even fetches the lyrics for you! You can directly enable lyrics on the playback page. As for the many friends asking about the lyrics issue in the mobile Plexamp player, I can only regretfully inform you that the free version does not support it; a subscription (membership) is required.

External Access

🔺 I actually didn't set up external access much because I mentioned in the previous article that I have a public IP, so I enabled it by default. I just manually specified the port, which is still the default 32400.

🔺 Then I added a port forwarding rule on the router, and that’s it~

For those without a public IP, you can try public IPv6 or internal penetration; there are many tutorials available, so I won’t repeat them here~

In any case, after using Plex to build a music library, installing Plexamp on the mobile side makes listening to music quite enjoyable. I wonder if other NAS enthusiasts have any better solutions; feel free to share in the comments!
